Healthy Habits

I've made the decision.
It's final and I am not changing my mind.
These next two and a half months will be trying.
And gruelling.
But ultimately rewarding.

I know this is coming out of left field, so let's rewind.
I'd like to take you back in time....to a sunny, fall day.
The leaves had turned and were clinging in vain to their branches.
The air was cool; it was a crisp morning where you could see your breath.
There was frost delicately creeping up the windows and the smell of autumn in the air.
The time was 7:00am. The date? September 23rd, 2010.
(YES I realize that was this morning)

As I was digging around under my bathroom sink searching (in vain) for a bottle of moisturizer, I happened upon this:

Hrmmm, I thought to myself.
I wondered where that had gone.
And now I knew.
As I pulled it out of the basket I began to think back to the last time I flossed my teeth.
My heart fluttered a little and my hands grew clammy as I realized I hadn't flossed the entire month of August.
Or thus far in September.
I ripped off a length of the minty thread and immediately set to work.
I'll spare you the details.
But it was gross.
Here it is, several hours later, and I am having a coffee.
And my teeth hurt.
Immensely.
Guess that's what you get when you don't floss for almost two months.

SO the decision has been made.
The next 3 months are going to be my "Healthy Habit" building months.
I need to start flossing every (other) day.
And hitting the gym again.
And maybe doing some AM Yoga.
I need to wash my makeup off everynight. EVERY night.
I need to moisturize my skin.

I really want to start 2011 off Healthy, Happy and Enthused about life.
And everyone knows that's achieved through flossing your teeth.

PS - How often do YOU floss??

Operation: HB

Okay, so I have two events coming up that I am aiming to look my best at.
One is at the end of May and it is slightly Top-Secret, so no details. Suffice to say it's a cocktail reception to honor an award recipient. Plus it's the end of May, when summer is (hopefully) starting. I want to be toned, tanned and happy! So that is the first goal/checkpoint.
The second is a trip back to my "home" land ... hahaha. I am headed east to visit friends, family and strangers and to celebrate an 80th birthday and a new marriage. I couldn't be more excited. However, these are folks that haven't seen me in several years and again, I wanted to be as toned, tanned (in a non-Jersey-Shore way) as possible.
There's a third, too, I guess...I have lived in this city for coming up on four years and I have not once participated in a river raft adventure. This year, my friends, this year. Basically, everyone in the city - once the temp hits about 24 - grabs their nearest flotation device or reasonable substitute, jumps in to the river and drifts lazily along through to Downtown. It's a big deal, everyone does it; everyone raves about how much fun it is. Almost every Monday morning from May Long (weather permitting) to Labor Day, the answer to "Whadidya do this weeked?" is
"Went rafting"
I have never been. Mostly because I have never felt comfortable enough to get in to a bathing suit in front of my acquaintances.
I see several possible ways to rectify this situation:
  1. Lose some weight, build some muscle, buy a killer bikini and rock it
  2. Build some relationships and make some friends that aren't going to care what I look like in a bathing suit and whom I will feel comfortable around.
As option two may take a little longer than option one - which is feasible in the next 3 months - so I that's what I am going with!
Thus, today marks day one of Operation: Hot Body.
I will let you in on my trials, tribulations and victories....which there will hopefully be many..!!

PS - do you think that if Cool Whip has 0 calories it's okay to eat the whole tub???
